Artist's statement
being Wrigley embodies pivotal moments of my life. It is a collection of my private works - from extremely large-scale oil and wax paintings on canvas, to the opposite end of the spectrum, the significantly smaller oil on panel series aptly titled Little Billys®. Add to the mix Billy Booms® - hand-made, one of a kind boomerangs painstakingly perfected to fly and return.
These works exemplify the reality of an overwhelming sense of aloneness and subsequent feelings of abandonment that live and thrive in my head. From a very young age the realization of this notion enabled me to cope and therefore better adjust to the mechanics of life - most notably abandonment by, and towards, others - through my art. On viewing these works, it is clear to see the ‘oneness’ influencing each piece - be it the solitary act of dreaming, musing, fantasizing, or brooding; or in the guise of a boomerang, a recreational contrivance designed for a single participant.
I believe that in creating this collection, being Wrigley epitomizes the notion that strength can be gained through solitude.
